Glenorchy resident Megan Cooper was one of 13 young farmers from across Victoria to receive a scholarship to help boost skills and implement new on-farm initiatives.

The scholarships, worth up to $10,000, aim to support young farmers to build productive and profitable careers in agriculture.
Miss Cooper said she applied for the scholarship when she identified key areas she needed to invest in, to improve her agricultural career.
“I chose to upskill and undertake training in wool classing and invest in constructing an all-weather cover over our sheep yards,” she said.
Miss Cooper oversees the stock aspect of the family farming business.
“Wool classing is something I am interested in and can build upon current experience to sustain my career in the agricultural industry,” she said.
“This will also allow our business to have one less expense.”
Miss Cooper identified the need for an all-weather cover for the yards after visiting other farms.
“The cover will enable us to perform jobs in a more timely manner. We won’t have to worry about sheep getting wet when it rains or sunburnt if they are freshly shorn,” she said.
Miss Cooper said the scholarship was a great help to young people.
“It enables young farmers to invest in the farm sooner,” she said.
