MacPherson Smith Rural Foundation developed the scholarship, with support from the Findex Community Fund and Crowe Horwath Stawell.
Chief executive Dr Maryann Brown said the foundation was calling for nominations from young rural people, aged 18 to 22, who had demonstrated their leadership capacity and community service, or had the potential to be a future leader.
“We work with young rural Victorians by supporting and empowering them to be leaders in their communities,” she said.
The foundation wants to hear about young people who want to remain in rural Victoria and have demonstrated their resilience by overcoming challenges.
“This scholarship program reminds us that, no matter the pathway after high school, it is important to support young Victorians and their rural and regional communities,” Dr Brown said.
Scholarship recipients will receive an all-expenses paid place in the week-long Young Rural Leaders Program in January on a farm property near Ballarat, $500 to help cover travel costs, incidental expenses and lost wages and ongoing connection with young people from across rural Victoria through the foundations alumni group.
Dr Brown said nominations closed on October 8 and could be submitted online at www.msrf.org.au/scholarships
