On Sunday, September 9 the Wimmera Camera Clubs, Nhill, Horsham, and Stawell gathered in Horsham for their annual interclub photographic competition.
Stawell Camera Club won this year’s competition.
The competition culminated in an exhibition.
The standard of entries overall was very high so Stawell members were surprised and thrilled to win.
The Ian Garth Memorial Trophy is held by the winning club for 12 months.
Ian Garth was an active member of the Horsham Camera Club many years ago and actually made the trophy.
The sections entered and judged were monochrome prints, colour prints and projected images.
A total of 90 prints and 70 projected images were entered in the competition.
Horsham Camera Club, which was reformed last year, hosted the exhibition on the weekend with a short session of practical photography out at the Police Paddocks.
Those attending were treated to a presentation on portrait photography by Jane Murray, one of the three judges.
The exhibition was open to the public from 1pm for a couple of hours.
The three clubs worked incredibly well together to set up and dismantle the exhibition, however, Horsham organised it overall and produced a very well organised event.
Stawell Camera Club President, Lyn MacKenzie, also took the opportunity to present Jeff McMillan with his Victorian Association of Photographer Societies Inc Meritorious Service Award during the interclub exhibition. The medal recognises significant services to a member’s local club and community in photography.
This was awarded at the annual VAPS Convention in May, held in Warrnambool this year, however, Jeff was unable to attend.
The Stawell Camera Club meets the second Wednesday of each month.
