The Wimmera Regional Library Corporation delivers public library services such as traditional library resources, mobile libraries and online amenities to five local government areas.
These include the Horsham Rural City municipality and the Hindmarsh, Northern Grampians, West Wimmera and Yarriambiack shires.
However, the corporation is seeking advice from the community, on behalf of the five councils, about the importance of its library services to the region.
A survey was made available in July and continues to seek community responses.
Wimmera Regional Library Corporation’s Leanda Elliott said the review intended to identify the best course of action to manage and deliver a range of services that met the diverse interests of all library users.
Ms Elliott said interviews and discussions from library board members and staff, council representatives, library users, partner organisations and the Wimmera community would inform the review.
“The review, which is being conducted by I & J Management Services … will address the following question – how can Wimmera regional libraries best plan for, manage and deliver the range of contemporary library services needed to meet the diverse interests of local library users over the next five to 10 years?” she said.
“To put it simply, (the review asks) how important are library services to the Wimmera, and how can we do it better?”
Ms Elliott said residents had the ability to offer input that could shape future library services.
“These give the community an opportunity to tell us what they think is important about their library, how well we are meeting their needs and what they think we can do to make library services more relevant and accessible to all people in the Wimmera,” she said.
“Members of the community are welcome to provide input into the review, and the library is inviting people to contribute via surveys or in response to a discussion paper.”
The community has until September 21 to provide input through the survey.
The survey could be accessed from the library website at www.wrlc.org.au. Hard copies are also available at the libraries.
