Australian General Practice Accreditation Limited oversees accreditation in medical practices. 

The accreditation is valid for three years.

Stawell Regional Health chief executive Libby Fifis said the accreditation recognised the “significant investment and commitment to quality” at Stawell Medical Centre.

“Gaining accreditation was a great achievement and it demonstrates our commitment to continue to improve patient care in general practice,” she said.

Stawell Medical Centre Manager Kim Hinkley said accreditation was not mandatory. The process involves meeting certain criteria.

“One key focus to obtaining accreditation is enabling the practice to teach and have training doctors. We have different levels of training doctors at the practice and the accreditation ensures we can continue to provide training,” she said.

Ms Fifis said the accreditation would give the community a sense of assurance they were attending a “quality” practice.
