THE Wimmera community is continuing to show its support for drought stricken farmers by donating to a number of fundraising campaigns.
The Horsham Country Music Association will hold two fundraising events this month with proceeds being donated to the drought appeal. The events will be held at the Horsham RSL on September 20 and 21.
Association chairman Colin Morrell said donations would be collected at both shows for the drought appeal.
“The RSL also has a donation tin, while members of the Horsham Country Music Committee will have a stall in Horsham Plaza on September 7 and 14, which will allow members of the public to contribute,” he said.
The committee is aiming to raise between $5000 and $10,000 for the appeal.
“We want to help our country music friends in rural New South Wales and Queensland who are experiencing one of the driest periods in recent history,” Mr Morrell said.
Horsham’s Morrow Motor Group decided to also fundraise for the cause by donating a portion of its profits until the end of August.
The business donated $5 from every car service, and $50 from every new or used car sold to the cause.
All up, $2100 was raised which will be given to the NFF to be distributed to those who need it most.
Norton Motor Group decided to match Morrow’s efforts by also donating $2100 to the NFF.
A number of Wimmera venues are also still raising money through the ‘Parma for a Farmer’ campaign.
Wimmera venues that participated included Dimboola’s Victoria Hotel, Horsham’s Victoria Hotel and Madeka’s, Great Western Hotel, Dooen Hotel, Stawell’s Gift Hotel, and St Arnaud’s Farmers Arms and Parkview Bakery.
