Mr Lind set upon organising a fundraiser to help Mr Woodfine, who will need extensive treatment, including a stem cell transplant. The treatment means the former Ararat man will be out of action for more than 12 months.
Mr Lind said it was the least he could do.
“When I heard the news about David, I just felt like I had to do something,” he said.
More than 100 people attended the fundraiser on Saturday at the Ararat Trotting Track, a venue which was donated to the cause. Attendees included members of Mr Woodfine’s family, including his young children.
Mr Lind expressed his gratitude to all those who got behind the cause.
“It was amazing. Ararat businesses and community got involved, people reached out and asked how they could help,” he said.
More than $5000 has been raised in total.
“We have made a great start towards helping this family with their general living and medical expenses that will be coming up for the family,” Mr Lind said.
The fundraising couldn’t come at a better time after thieves broke in and ransacked their family home in Creswick last month.
Jamie and Kim’s mobile zoo, Terry the Dinosaur T-Rex, a photo booth, Indigenous smoking ceremony and a jumping castle were among the activities on the day for the community to enjoy.
