Stawell-based jockey Linda Meech has had an outstanding 2017-18 racing season rewarded, winning the Neville Wilson medal as Country Racing Victory jockey of the year.

Meech had 109 winners in country Victoria from 597 rides in 2017-18, amassing more than $2 million in prizemoney. She narrowly missed out on winning the Victorian premiership, getting pipped in the final week of the season.
“It is a great effort. She does a lot of miles and works hard for her results,” Stawell Racing Club president Ian Nicholson said.

“She even got to the presentation night late because she was riding at Donald that day.”
Meech, who has had a tremendous career as a jockey, is also working as a trainer now, having set up a training centre at Stawell.
