Reid polled 33 votes during the season to finish 11 clear of Noradjuha-Quantong’s Jye Walter and Dylan Bates, who played for both Pimpinio and Natimuk United during the season.
Reid said it felt good to get the award.
“I was expecting that coming down I might get fifth or something like that,” he said.
“I certainly didn’t expect this, I’m pretty happy with the result.”
Reid said good teammates and hard work at training had underpinned his strong season.
In round nine he made his senior debut for the Swifts in the side’s win against Noradjuha-Quantong.
“When Scott Carey picked me I was excited but nervous as well,” he said.
“It’s taught me a bit more composure around the ground and stuff like that.”
The midfielder said the challenge of playing senior football had helped him improve.
“You get smashed around a bit more against the bigger-bodied senior players,” he said.
“I just enjoy playing with the boys in the under-17s, I love the competition.”
Reid’s side will play an elimination final against Pimpinio on Sunday after the sides finished fifth and fourth respectively.
“I reckon it will be a good game,” he said.
“I think we’ve just got to have pressure around the ground and around the stoppages.”
He said he just enjoyed playing at the Swifts.
“I love the club to bits,” he said. “It’s a great club to be around.”
He thanked his mum after winning the award.
“She drove me to all of the games and I need to thank my coach for coaching me,” he said.
