Ararat Police Crime Investigation Unit Detective Senior Constable Mal Wineberg said the Laverton man, 38, was inside a Halls Gap holiday unit when he was assaulted.
“Another 38-year-old man from Endeavour Hills allegedly entered the unit about 11.30pm,” he said.
“The man has then assaulted the victim. The victim was taken Stawell hospital where he received medical treatment for lacerations to his head caused by an unknown weapon.
“The two parties were known to each other.”
Detective Senior Constable Wineberg said the alleged offender surrendered himself to Dandenong police.
