The image intensifier will support the provision of real time x-ray imaging for patients during surgery.
The hospital’s nurse manager Sue Campigli said the equipment would be mainly used for orthopaedic surgery to ensure the correct placement of prosthesis, but would also be used in general surgery.
Planning works are also underway for the hospital’s capital project.
The project includes the installation of two new state-of-the-art theatre sterilizers.
Stawell Regional Health acting chief executive Libby Fifis said the installation of the sterilizers would help the hospital to meet future sterilizing standards.
“It will also help us to accommodate our growing orthopaedic demand,” she said.
She said the installation was scheduled for December and January, which was the hospital’s quieter period.
