Stawell Performing Arts Company is a community based, not-for-profit organisation that provides opportunities for local people to build their skills and be involved in the performing arts.
The company’s junior group the SPACi Young Ones will take to the stage on Wednesday for their sixth annual concert.
They will perform some all-time favourite hits from the height of the rock’n’roll era in the show.
Performer Sarah Little said the rehearsals had been going well.
“The cast have been working hard on the show and it’s coming along wonderfully,” she said.
“I’ll be part of the sleepy girls in the show and a newsreader later on in the performance.”
Miss Little joined the SPACi Young Ones seven years ago, when the group was first created.
“I’ve been getting to develop my dancing, singing and performing skills,” Miss Little said.
Miss Little said she enjoyed seeing the performance of the shows, where she could see the skills all come together.
Stawell Performing Arts Company program leader Dianne Stewart said she and co-program leader Tracey Erkelens “had a blast” working with the 15 performers in the show.
“The kids have really loved the ‘50s music and learning the dancing,” she said.
“It’s fun and energetic and there has been a lot of learning around ‘50s culture, clothing and music along the way.
“Local rock’n’roll dance enthusiasts Peter and Barb Horwood joined the team to help the SPACi Young Ones learn some more complicated moves including being able to do rock turns.”
The show runs for about 25 minutes.
It will be performed at Stawell Entertainment Centre on Wednesday at noon, 2pm and 7pm.
