Travelling to take on Maryborough Rovers, the Grasshoppers started well, booting three goals to zero in the first term. “We started much quicker than we have in other weeks which was very pleasing,” Navarre coach Kyle Hendy said.
“We started the game like we finished last week. We had that same intensity around the ball and really pressured them to cause turnovers.”
The margin should have blown out even further in the second term, but inaccuracy in front of goal was Navarre’s downfall. The visitors managed just two goals from 12 scoring opportunities but still held a 31-point half-time lead.
“Our shots were probably from a little far out so that is something we will work on to make sure we captialise on our chances,” Hendy said.
The Magpies hit back in the second half but the deficit was too large, going down 11.14 (80) to 7.9 (51).
The victory places Navarre fifth on the ladder, sitting two games outside the top-four by just two matches going into this weekend’s league-wide bye. It is very tight in the top half of the table, with just four points separating fifth and ninth place.
