Girl Guides Victoria is the peak body organisation for girls and young women in Victoria.
Wimmera Region Girl Guides joint region manager Marion Smith needs to find a minimum of six girls and two leaders to get Girl Guides running again in Stawell.
“We focus on the environment, offer camping and outdoor activities, we focus on world issues and science, technology, engineering, and mathematics areas,” she said.
“The non-profit organisation supports girls and women in leadership, as well as enabling girls to make a difference in the community.
“Girl Guides offer lots of fun activities and opportunities girls may not have.”
Girls can join the organisation from the age of five to 90.
Ms Smith said Girl Guides previously focused on more local issues such as the home, but it now focuses on world issues.
“I think Girl Guides closed in Stawell in approximately the 1980s,” she said.
“I suspect it closed due to not enough leaders to run it.
“The biggest challenge with getting Girl Guides up and running will be finding leaders to run it.”
Ms Smith hopes there will be women in Stawell willing to be leaders for the Girl Guides.
She said Girl Guides Victoria will be able to provide training to the leaders.
