Parents and members of Horsham Bunnings and Stawell Men’s shed attended the opening and enjoyed some morning tea prepared by the students at Pomomal Primary School.
Tayla Field, year 6 student and president of the Junior School Council, provided a speech to thank all the parents for their efforts in constructing the chicken pen and to thank the project’s supporters.
Horsham Bunnings, Haverford Netting, Stawell nursery, Stawell Mitre 10, Grampians Everlasting , Grampians Feathers n Things and Stawell Men’s all donated materials, equipment or poultry for the chicken pen.
The students initiated the project by writing persuasive letters to local businesses requesting support in the form of materials to build their chicken pen.
Students learnt about permaculture and how chickens factor in the ecosystem.
