PETA message concerns
I WRITE regarding Desmond Bellamy, of PETA Australia’s letter (June 8 edition).
I hope no one took any notice of this typical PETA propaganda. The jury is in alright – and the verdict is out there on your computers, people.
Get your Google engines started and search: “Eight things you didn’t know about PETA.”
Here is item two and three from that document, by the Center for Consumer Freedom in America, as an example.
Item two says that PETA believes in total animal liberation.
The document reads: “PETA president and co-founder Ingrid Newkirk has described her group’s overall goal as ‘total animal liberation’.
“This means the complete abolition of meat, milk, cheese, eggs, honey, zoos, aquariums, circuses, wool, leather, fur, silk, hunting, fishing and pet ownership.
“In a 2003 profile of Newkirk in The New Yorker, author Michael Specter wrote that Newkirk has had at least one seeing-eye dog taken away from its blind owner.
“PETA is also against all medical research that requires the use of animals, including research aimed at curing AIDS and cancer.”
Item three says that PETA supports criminals.
The document reads: “PETA has given tens of thousands of dollars to convicted arsonists and other violent criminals.
“This includes a 2001 donation of $1500 to the North American Earth Liberation Front (ELF), an FBI-certified ‘domestic terrorist’ group responsible for dozens of fire bombs and death threats.
“During the 1990s, PETA paid $70,200 to Rodney Coronado, an Animal Liberation Front (ALF) serial arsonist convicted of burning down a Michigan State University research laboratory.
“In his sentencing memorandum, a federal prosecutor implicated PETA president Ingrid Newkirk in that crime.
“Former PETA vegetarian campaign co-ordinator and animal liberation movement leader Bruce Friedrich told an animal rights convention, ‘blowing stuff up and smashing windows is a great way to bring about animal liberation’, adding, ‘Hallelujah to the people who are willing to do it’.”
In 1990 I learnt about terrorism.
At the time the biggest, most active and deadliest terror organisation in the world was the Animal Liberation Front.
They were linked to more human death and property damage through arson and explosion attacks that any of the Middle Eastern groups.
They are still up there and are totally global.
Google: “PETA linked to terrorism” and “The Animal Liberation Front”, to which PETA provided “tacit support”.
The People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA) is the largest animal rights organisation in the world and it has more than 6.5 million members and supporters.
Yet 97 per cent of animals that come into their possession are killed.
Is that ethical?
Please do not believe, or support, Desmond Bellamy or PETA.

Statements are incorrect
IN PARLIAMENT, Minister Jaala Pulford has misrepresented the Victorian Farmers Federation during debate on the Labour Hire Licensing Bill 2017.
On multiple occasions, both Minister Hutchins and Minister Pulford have quoted Victorian Farmers Federation statements from 2015.
They deliberately misrepresent the farmers federation’s policy position and current leadership.
In early 2017, the federation made it clear we wanted action on problem labour hire firms but we would not support the proposed licensing bureaucracy.
We wanted real action that would actually reduce worker exploitation.
Despite numerous other groups being consulted during the drafting of this Bill and despite representing the industry this Bill is directed at; the federation was not among those consulted.
Since December 13, 2017 when the Bill was introduced to the Lower House, both Ministers have refused to meet with the leadership of the VFF Horticulture Group.
Their departments only contacted the federation on February 6, while the Bill was being pushed through the Lower House. This is not consultation.
During the debate, Minister Pulford made many statements regarding the federation’s position.
At no point has she accurately represented the in-depth analysis and extensive concerns our organisation has expressed regarding the Bill.
The Victorian Farmers Federation wants implementation of our holistic horticultural labour policy.
The exploitation of vulnerable workers and the current labour crisis needs action, not bureaucratic lip service.
