The Grasshoppers trounced the visiting Newstead unit, putting their foot down from the start of the match. An eight-goal to one first term, including 15 scoring shots, set the tone of the match for Navarre.
“The first five or ten minutes really set the scene. Josh Fowkes, Louis Hannett, Darcy Bibby and Sam Kaye just won all the clearances early on which was massive,” Navarre coach Kyle Hendy said.
The home side slowed down as the match wore on, but they were still able to record a 17.19 (121) to 5.2 (32) victory.
Hendy said his side has improved in all facets of the game.
“The ball is coming out of our backline a lot easier and at the same time our forward pressure has been really good,” he said.
“We have been able to keep the ball in our forward 50 really well which means we have had plenty of scoring opportunities.
“The next thing we need to work on is converting those chance better than we have been.”
Navarre’s young players have continued to make more of an impact in the team, with young Charlie Ferguson booting three goals to highlight his development.
“With Kris Brennan down there helping him, Charlie has improved a lot,” Hendy said.
The win helps Navarre climb the ladder, moving to a season-high position of sixth on the ladder with a healthy percentage of 142.15. They sit just one game outside the top four going into the long weekend bye.
