Welcoming back two-time league best and fairest winner Jess Parry, Navarre quickly regained the lead and all momentum in the second term, scoring 13 goals to three to lead by nine at half-time.
Navarre’s historically strong defence showed signs of old, making Maldon’s shooters work hard for their goals, going on to win 33-22.
The win is Navarre’s third in a row after three win-less weeks to start the season.
“The confidence of the girls is really high right now which has been a big factor for us continuing to win,” Navarre coach Krystal Browne said.
“At the start of the season we were all a bit unsure of how we would go, especially after some tough weeks to start. But we have bounced back and any pressure there was is gone now.”
Parry was crucial in the victory, shooting 11 goals from 16 attempts in three quarters of game time.
“She had an impact straight away. To see the immediate effect she had was pretty special,” Browne said.
“She had a calming influence on the group, and everyone really lifted when she stepped on to the court.
“The plan is to have her around the team a fair bit and have her play as much as she feels comfortable.”
Navarre moved to ninth following the win, sitting outside the top eight with a percentage of just 62, the third lowest in the Maryborough Castlemaine District A Grade competition.
