Penshurst (second) at home to Glenthompson-Dunkeld (fourth) appears to be the main game with Moyston-Willaura (third) at home to Lismore-Derrinallum (eighth) who lacks last year’s drive, and a loss this week may eliminate a repeat of last season’s glory.

SMW Rovers meet neighbours Tatyoon in the usual tough encounter. A Rovers loss may see Ararat Eagles fly above them on the ladder with a win over Caramut. 

Top-of-the-ladder Wickliffe-Lake Bolac travels to Great Western in fifth. The tight ground may contain the Magpies’ running ability which has been their strength, making for an interesting game.

Woorndoo-Mortlake should gain the points over Hawkesdale Macarthur who is struggling; a loss this week will potentially put them in a race for the wooden spoon.

Last weekend the MDFL participated in the western Junior Carnival at Hamilton. Matt Burmeister in charge of the under-12s had one win in the round robin and Best on Ground was Archie Page.

The under-14s failed to gain success but the boys put great endeavour into their play. Archie Conboy and Lachie and Tyson Marr found talent among the group. Best on Ground was Moyston Willaura’s Ben Skubnick

Alistair Rentsch coached the under-16s providing great experience to the boys with Max Uren, Lismore Derrinallum Best on Ground. Considering that MDFL has only seven junior sides in the league, numbers were good.

Most spectators support Aussie Rules to see teams scoring goals and MDFL players have provided the requirements over a number of years.

In 1991 Shane Dempsey held the league record with 145 season goals but was overtaken in 1994 by Caramut’s Jason Mifsud with a massive 205 goals, and a match record of 28 goals against Dunkeld. Mifsud also won the Lewis Medal. In the 1995 season Tony Russell kicked 157.
