Horsham women Sally Pymer and Susan Ellis have had their trip to the 70.3 Ironman world championships in South Africa made easier after receiving a government grant.

$1500 was allocated to the Stawell Amateur Athletics Club to help Pymer and Ellis cover the costs of the trip.
The funding was part of the state government’s athlete pathway travel program, with $290,000 allocated in the most recent round of funding.
The program helps Victorian athletes, teams, coaches and officials achieve their sporting goals by reducing the burden of travel and accommodation costs. This round provided support to 206 recipients across the state.
Western Victoria Jaala Pulford said the athlete pathway travel grant program provides a great opportunity to help sporting clubs grow and excel.
“We’re giving grassroots sports clubs in Western Victoria the support they need to grow their ranks and help more people than ever play the sports they love and reach their sporting goals,” she said.
“Here in Western Victoria, we are proud of our clubs and the vital role they play in bringing together our community,” Ms Pulford said.
Former Stawell Amateur Athletics Club president Keith Lofthouse said it was great to see the government support athletes.
“Any funding to help athletes travel and compete in other countries is fantastic,” she said.
