The league failed to field a team in the weekend’s competition but some people have talked to the board about trying to increase support with a 2019 match a possibility.
League chairman John Box said it was a positive sign that it is being discussed again for the future.
“It was discussed at the board meeting, the league is open to discussing it with clubs and trying to work through if it is possible,” he said.
“The board are definitely keen to get back involved but if we have not got the support of the clubs, then it will not be successful and it will be a waste of time.”
Box said some board members were approached at the junior carnival in Hamilton on Sunday by some people who are hoping to re-generate interest in the annual match.
“We had a couple of people approach us at the junior carnival and hopes it will get back up and going again next year,” he said.
“We have a forum coming up next month and it will be put to the clubs again and if they are happy to try and make it work, then we will certainly look at it.”
The board meeting also confirmed the trial to scrap boundary umpires in junior and reserves will remain for the rest of the regular season.
Box said it was a positive result with a lot of positive feedback after the change was implemented for the first five rounds of the season.
“We got a bit of feedback, some of the clubs did not give us any but most of the clubs did and the majority were pretty positive about the move and think it is sustainable,” he said.
“We will have them for finals but the current rule will remain intact for the rest of the regular season.”
A change to the junior finals set-up was also discussed with all seven teams a possibility of playing in finals if a system can be constructed that is balanced.
The idea will continue to be discussed in the coming months at board level.
