Five-year-old gelding once again came through with the goods for TKO Racing, defying the odds to win by 0.2 of a length.
Entering the $30,000 race with winning odds of $26, jockey Christine Puls rode Patch Adams to his first win since claiming the Colac Cup in February 2017.
Terry O’Sullivan said he had more faith in his horse than punters did.
“He has been a very fair horse for a long time for us now and has run some good races,” he said.
“He ran a good fourth two starts ago at Caulfield so we liked his chances.
“He drew a good barrier in the (Casterton) Cup and Christine Puls gave him a good ride all the way.”
Patch Adams was about sixth lengths behind the leader at the halfway mark of the 2000m race, a spot O’Sullivan was very happy with.
“Most horses won from leading around the bend on the day so for him to catch the leader and run on strong was very pleasing,” he said.
“He settled well and I think his good barrier draw helped a bit.”
The win is the first Casterton Cup for the O’Sullivan stable since winning with Stable Star in 2015.
The victory also ends more than a month and a half without a win for the O’Sullivans, with their most recent win prior to Sunday on April 1 at Stawell at the Easter weekend.
“We haven’t had much luck so to get another country cup to break a dry spell is nice,” Terry O’Sullivan said.
“He (Patch Adams) will now rest up and prepare go to Moonee Valley for Saturday week.”
