The Central Western Woodworking Group consists of five woodworking clubs.
The CWWG meets four times a year and also conducts a number of events throughout the year, including the annual Grampians U-Turn, where woodturners gather to learn and pass on their knowledge. The event was held at the Ararat Harness Racing Track. The majority of catering items are purchased from local suppliers.
The local Ararat Woodies Group is responsible for setting up and assisting in the running of the event.
From April 27 to 30, 56 woodturners – with 15 accompanied by their wives/partners – and three woodcraft suppliers attended the Grampians U-Turn 2018 event.
The event was a great success with all attendees giving the venue and the organisation of the gathering the thumbs up.
During the event, a raffle is held at each meal break, with the money raised plus any surplus from the attendance fee, donated to charity.
The Ararat Woodies Group decided to allocate $1000 to both Ararat Legacy and Prostate Cancer.
It is hoped that this donation will assist these organisations in carrying out the vital work they do in the Ararat community.
After the success of this year's event, it is planned to hold the event again in 2019 and in subsequent years at Ararat.
