Police said on April 22, an unknown male offender gained entry to a parked car in Roberts Avenue, Horsham.
A case containing a number of personal cards, including a debit card, were stolen.
One of the stolen credit cards was later used by a male attempting to buy cigarettes and other grocery items at a supermarket.
Investigators have released CCTV footage depicting the male that police believe might be able to help them with their investigations.
They have urged anyone who knows the man to call Constable Mauger at Horsham Police Station on 5382 9200, or Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
Meanwhile, Stawell police are urging community members to lock their vehicles after a spate of car thefts.
Senior Sergeant Rob Weppner said police had attended six thefts from vehicles or attempted thefts from vehicles in the past 10 days.
“They were all around the same area on Patrick, William and Napier streets, and Marjory Brown Close,” he said.
“Three of the six incidents happened to residents of Eventide Aged Care Facility, which has really scared the residents as you can imagine.
“We want to reinforce the message to people to lock their cars.
“Also, we want to encourage the public to contact police if they see anyone acting suspicious around the area of these thefts.”
Senior Sergeant Weppner said people could call Stawell Police Station on 5358 8222, Crime Stoppers or Triple Zero if they were aware of any thefts.
