Coates made the move from Maryborough Castlemaine league club Lexton to the Baggies this season after moving to live in Stawell.
“I didn’t know many people in town so I decided to join Swifts where my partner (Daniel Parkin) moved to play and they have been so supportive,” Coates said.
“I have settled in really well – everyone at the club has made me feel welcome.”
Coates has been a big part in Swifts’ A Grade success early in the season.
The Baggies have won four from five games, losing one match by just one-goal.
“It is very exciting to be part of some early success,” Coates said.
“Everyone is determined to do well – not just for ourselves but for the whole club.
“We have no expectations or pressure on us. We are the underdogs.”

Coates has brought a vast range of experience with her to Swifts. She has previously played netball in Scotland and won a premiership with Lexton in 2012.
A mid-court player at Lexton, Coates has gone down back for Swifts to steady their defense.
“I played as a defender when I was in Scotland so it is good to be down back there,” she said.
“The great thing about us at the moment is how versatile we are. If I ever need to go into the mid-court we know there are girls who can jump into defence and do a good job.”
For now, Coates said her side’s ambitions are clear.
“We really hope to play finals but to do so we will have to improve and be at our best when we play some of the best teams in the league.”
