With just one win to their name going into the match. Navarre made the most of the blustery conditions to win 11.6 (72) to 8.12 (60).
Royal Park kicked with a strong breeze in the first term, taking a 14-point lead into quarter time.
The Grasshoppers made the most of their opportunity with the wind, keeping the Tigers goalless while kicking five majors of their own.
The score went back the other way in the third term with Royal Park holding a two-goal lead.
The young Navarre side was able to hold its nerve in the final term, using the wind to boot five majors and win the match.
Navarre coach Kyle Hendy said he was “extremely proud” of his team.
“It was really good to see our guys run it out until the last quarter,” he said.
“We had to try a lot harder and we found an extra gear when we had to.”
Kris Brennan was once again a strong target for Navarre up forward, booting four goals.
Josh Fowkes was best on ground for the Grasshoppers.
The win sees Navarre move to 11th, sitting outside the top eight on percentage.
Hendy said winning in a close contest will be very beneficial for his team’s younger players.
“It will help them down the track in other close games,” he said.
“They will be full of confidence after a game like that.”
