Mount William in the Grampians recorded snow overnight Thursday and wind gusts of more than 100km/h.
Gusts of 107km/h were recorded at the mountain at 3.27am on Friday – the strongest gusts anywhere in the state.
The bureau has warned damaging winds could continue to affect the Wimmera until Friday afternoon, as a low-pressure complex moves across the state.
The complex will move into central and north central Victoria by Friday afternoon.
State Emergency Service crews have been kept busy in Stawell and Ararat since Thursday afternoon, with multiple incidents reported.
An SES media spokeswoman said crews attended seven incidents in Stawell in that period, including for damage at St Patrick's Catholic Primary School.
“That incident was quickly resolved,” she said.
“There were also a few trees down and some roof damage at a private property.”
The spokeswoman said crews helped with a car accident in Ararat on Thursday about 3.30pm, and also attended three other incidents.
In addition to wind warnings, the Bureau of Meteorology has also warned heavy rain could lead to flash flooding in areas east of Stawell on Friday.
So far, Horsham and Nhill have recorded about 11mm of rain since 9am Thursday, Warracknabeal has received about 8mm, and Stawell has recorded about 15mm.
Ararat has received the most rain of any towns in the region this week, with more than 27mm since 9am on Thursday.
The bureau has forecast little rain for the rest of Friday.
Temperatures are likely to be in the mid to high teens across the region for the weekend.
