Two sides will be formed from the squad, with an ‘east versus west’ type game set to feature the best players in the league against each other.
The players are formed from the under-17s. The match was proposed after the Bellarine Football League decided not to bring any junior football sides for an interleague contest.
Matt Summers from Ararat and Shane Cross from Horsham will coach one team each.
The Wimmera Football League’s junior and senior co-director of football David Stewart said the squad and coaches were excited for the game.
“It’s a good opportunity for a couple of coaches to experience coaching an interleague-type side,” Stewart said.
“It will give the coaches some exposure by coaching a talented group of children. We will decide on Sunday who will coach the teams and what the teams will look like exactly.
“I would imagine all the players would all be excited for it. It’s not too often these juniors get the chance to play with the best in their league. This way about 46 footballers get a chance, whereas if we had a proper interleague game we would only have the one team.
“There will be some who wouldn’t have necessarily had the opportunity to do representative football, so this will give them the chance to showcase themselves.”
