The A Grade Baggies took on 2017 grand finalists Harrow-Balmoral in their pursuit of a third win from four matches.
There was nothing separating the two sides for the first two quarters, with scores level at both quarter-time and half-time.
The Baggies were able to pull away in the third term, leading by three goals heading into the final period.
In a tense and hard fought final quarter, Swifts were able to hold on and record a memorable one-goal victory.
“It was a great win not just for our team but for the whole club,” Swifts coach Courtney Morrow said.
“I think our A Grade team has never beaten them which makes the win even more special.” Morrow led by example in the mid-court as she was named as best on court for Swifts.
Filling in for regular goal shooter Jade Ralph, Briana Close scored 24 goals in an inspired performance.
Morrow said having Close in the attacking goal circle made her side think more about how they were playing.
“We just took our time. Having Bree as shooter made us slow down, think about our passing and really take care of the ball,” she said.
“It was her first game in shooter for us and she was fantastic.”
Morrow said having that experience in a tight contest helped her side get across the line.
“It was obviously disappointing to get so close last week and not win,” she said.
“That experience made us think about what we had to do as a team to get the win when it came right down to the end of the match.”
The win is the Baggies’ third of the season, pushing them into third spot.
“Hopefully we can ride this high forward for the rest of the season,” Morrow said.
