Events included tai chi workshops in Halls Gap, Stawell basketball clinic and St Arnaud ColouriNG Festival.
“Active April is all about showcasing the range of physical activities on offer throughout our region, particularly those outside of what people might consider traditional activities and our community certainly embraced those opportunities,” Northern Grampians Shire mayor Tony Driscoll said.
NGSC, Parks Victoria, Grampians Community Health, East Wimmera Health Service, Stawell Regional Health and the Wimmera Regional Sports Assembly worked together for Active April.
GCH, health promotion coordinator Rachel Whittaker said “any activity is better than no activity”.
“Physical activity is an important message from GCH because:
- it can improve your health and reduce the risk of developing several diseases like type 2 diabetes, cancer and cardiovascular disease.
- Physical activity and exercise can have immediate and long-term health benefits. Most importantly, regular activity can improve your quality of life. A minimum of 30 minutes a day can allow you to enjoy these benefits.
The organisations will be doing an evaluation of the month, which will assist with plans for next year’s Active April.
