Over 50 students from Stawell Secondary College, Ararat College, Marian College Beaufort Secondary College, Lake Bolac Secondary College and Avoca Primary School were part of the 5,000 students who were paying their respects at the shrine.
This was Legacy’s 87th Anzac Commemoration Ceremony for students at the shrine.
During the ceremony the Governor of Victoria The Honourable Linda Dessau AM inspected the Guard of Honour, then addressed the students about the importance of remembering those who paid the ultimate sacrifice.
Wreaths were then laid by student representatives from all the schools in attendance.
Following the service, students and teachers took the opportunity to spend time looking at the many exhibits within the Shrine of Remembrance.
The shrine was originally built as a memorial to men and women of Victoria who served in World War 1, and is now is a memorial to all Australians who served in war.
The 50 students were hosted by Ararat Legacy who offers the opportunity to regional students, from years seven to 10, to attend the student Anzac Commemorative Ceremony at the shrine. Funding for this is supported by the Victoria Government Veterans Council Grants Program.
