The Saints led for the majority of the game, with their accuracy helping them come away with a 14.3 (87) to 12.10 (82) victory.
The Grasshoppers had five more scoring shots for the match but were unable to capitalise early on.
Navarre coach Kyle Hendy said inaccuracy cost his side dearly.
“We probably didn't kick straight enough at the start of game. We had more of the ball but just didn’t use it as well as we could have,” he said.
“They ran the ball from their back line into attack a lot easier which meant they could take higher percentage shots at goal. We needed to apply more pressure to stop that.”
Going into the final quarter, Navarre trailed by two goals. The home side was able to reel the lead in to within one goal with eight minutes to spare but could not manage to find an extra major to pinch the four points.
“Bryce Tickner had the ball on our forward flank with about 20 seconds to go but was called for running too far without bouncing as he got close to goal.” Hendy said.
Ben Scott dominated for Navarre in the forward 50, booting eight of his team’s 12 goals. New recruit Darcy Bibby was named as Navarre’s best on ground for his efforts on the ball.
“Darcy’s ball use going into our forward 50 was very impressive,” Hendy said.
The loss is Navarre’s second from as many rounds. Hendy said his side’s performance was much improved from round one.
“We still have to work on fitness but I was much happier with how we played this weekend,” he said.
