Playing their first game of 2018 at Central Park, the youth girls side was outdone by a classy Portland outfit, with the final score reading Stawell 1.0 (6) to Portland 10.12 (72).
Elysia Cooper was the sole goal scorer for the Warriors.
Jesse Bligh, Madison Churchill, Nicola Hateley, Tahlia Barnett and Kayla Prydderch all received awards for their efforts in the match.
The loss is Stawell’s second of the season after going down to South Warrnambool on the road last weekend.
Stawell placed an added focus on improving and developing skills for the 2018 season rather than assessing the season’s success on wins and losses.
The Warriors will hit the road again for their next game, taking on new side Timboon on Sunday.
The Demons lost their only match of the season to Cobden by one point in round one.
