The Baggies went into the 2017 grand final as underdogs but came away with a memorable win over Noradjuha-Quantong.
2018 under 17 coach Paul Boag said it was a “special moment” seeing the flag raised.
“It is a credit to all the players and everyone involved in that team,” he said.
“It is good for the town to have a premiership team too.”
Saturday’s opening game did not quite go to plan for the defending premiers, suffering a 69-point loss to Pimpinio. Boag said this year’s team is much different.
“We lost 14 players from that premiership team,” he said.
“This year’s team has big shoes to fill but as one door closes on our premiership side a new one opens for this young team we have now.”
Swifts’ under 14 team claimed a win in their first match while the reserves side won by 109 points in coach Nick Clarke’s 200th game.
