Coming up against Pimpinio at home after a bye last weekend, Swifts kicked away to win 17.22 (124) to 2.5 (17) in wet conditions.
The Baggies struggled to open the game up in the first half, managing just four goals from 15 scoring shots.
Swifts coach Scott Carey said his side had to dig deep to break the game apart.
“It was a pretty hard contest for the first half. Conditions were not conducive to brilliant footy,” he said.
“Luckily we were able to open it up in the second and play some good team football.
“I wouldn’t say we have set the world on fire just yet. We need to adjust and alter a few things to get back to the form of last season.”
Returning player Ben Martin booted five goals for Swifts while new recruit Daniel Parkin was one of the best on ground.
Defender Liam Scott was named best on ground for the Baggies.
“He was fantastic at centre half-back and really controlled the game well,” Carey said of Scott.
“Our backline was really solid with all of the players holding their own in one-on-one situations.
“Parko was really smart in the conditions while Ben had a great game back for the club in difficult conditions for a big forward.
“Damon Folkes came in for his 100th game for the club from an ACL injury and it looks like he hasn’t missed a beat.”
The win did not come without its concerns, with Carey suffering a knock to his shoulder he has had previous issues with.
“I am a bit sore at the moment – it has been an ongoing thing with my shoulder,” he said.
“I will get down to the specialist this week and see what they say. It could be a week or two off but I have to wait and see.”
Carey said while the win is a good way to start the season his players are not getting ahead of themselves.
“We saw glimpses of what we have been working on in the preseason,” he said.
“It wasn’t a perfect performance, but it will be a work in progress. It’s good to see and now we can adjust a few things for next week.”
