The former Magpie and Docker was let go by the Warriors without playing a match for premiership points for the club.
Stawell president Tim Williams said the club told Anthony at training on Thursday night.
“The Stawell Football Netball Club and Jack Anthony have parted ways for season 2018,” he said.
“We can confirm that an incident did occur over Easter and both the club and player have agreed that this would be the best outcome.
“We wish Jack well as he is moving back to Queensland to be with his partner and family.”
Williams said the club is “disappointed” to have Anthony leave without playing a Wimmera league match.
“It is obviously very disappointing for our club to not have him play a game,” he said.
Anthony signed with Stawell in December 2017 and played in a practice match against Ballarat City in March.
He did not take to the field in Stawell’s Good Friday loss to Ararat due to injury.
Anthony declined to comment.
