The male motorist of one vehicle was driving on the wrong side of the road towards the Grampians when he hit an oncoming car.
Sergeant Karen Bain of Halls Gap said the crash occurred at about 10am.
“The motorist was an international man and was driving up a hill,” she said.
Each car had three passengers and Sergeant Bain said it was lucky there were no injuries.
“The collision happened in a low speed area, but it was a big enough collision to write both cars off,” she said.
Sergeant Bain said both drivers were about 25 years old.
“There were police and Vic Roads at the scene. Vic Roads put up signage and put sand down on the roads for where the oil spilt,” she said.
“The international driver got a ticket. He was spoken to about driving on the wrong side of the road afterwards.”
Sergeant Bain said she has noticed tourists driving on the wrong side of the road frequently.
“It is one problem we have here, we have been working with Vic Roads to try and get some more signage to make international drivers aware of what side of the road to drive on,” she said.
