The revamped area is on schedule to arrive just in time for the influx of visitors travelling to the area over the Easter period to participate in local community events, markets and festivals.
After originally being announced late last year, the space has been subjected to lots of community consultation from a range of local groups.
Final plans for the space were unveiled in February.
The revitalisation of the area is sure to be a welcome sight for locals and business owners, who hope that it may contribute to attracting some new residents into the area.
Northern Grampians Shire Council’s parks and gardens coordinator John Hunt said the council was getting ready to unveil the space soon.
Mr Hunt said everything was on track, despite the short turnaround time of the project.
“Our team of Northern Grampians Shire Council parks and gardens workers and local contractors have combined to deliver a quality project that will provide plenty of benefits to the community,” Mr Hunt said.
“We’ve already completed the majority of the civil works, so from next week onwards, we’ll be installing roll-out turf, trees and other plants.
“The finished product will complement existing open spaces in Stawell’s Main Street and provide enhanced visual appeal.”
The major feature of the makeover with be a blue atlas cedar tree, as well as chinese elms, magnolias, jacarandas and other low maintenance plants and trees being used to make up the remaining garden space.
Construction and demolition has also been taking place at the former stonemasonry site at 2 Main Street, with contractors expected to have the majority of the site cleared by March 27.
This space will then become an extension of the Central Park precinct, however what the land will be used for has yet to be decided.
