Stawell Primary School teacher Jaquie Pollock said the day’s sunny weather added to the success of the event. “It was a fantastic morning,” Mrs Pollock said.
“The kids first had a tour through the Stawell Gift Hall of Fame, where they took in the history of the event, and drew some art that about the gift.
“We were lucky enough to be joined by two past competitors, who talked to the kids about what the event is and how it is run”
Pupils then went outside to take part in their own version of the gift, looking to crown a boys and girls champion.
With assistance from the Stawell Athletics Club, the pupils ran in a few heats to set up two much anticipated final races.
After the finals were completed, Abdul Hanafi and Chloe Cassidy came out on top, both being awarded with first place sashes, and a large novelty cheque from Commonwealth Bank.
