Contractors have been forced to tear up a 26-kilometre section of the road between Burrumbeet and Beaufort and further roadworks will begin in March.
The new works will see traffic slowed to 40km/h between Box Track and Beaufort-Carngham Road.
Nigel Powers, project director for north western projects, said it was disappointing the road had deteriorated so quickly.
He said the contractor would foot the bill for the works.
“We have been working with the contractor to understand why the recently constructed section between Burrumbeet and Beaufort suffered some deterioration,” he said.
“We share the public’s disappointment that this recently constructed section of the duplication has suffered some surfacing failures.
“The contractor has met the full cost of the repairs for the 23.5km section it constructed.”
The new works, set to start in early March, are expected to take between two to three weeks.
“We understand that it is frustrating for drivers but we need to ensure this road is repaired to meet not only our standards, but the expectations of the travelling public,” he said.
“However we will undertake every effort to ensure delays are minimised.”
