The former Essendon and Greater Western Sydney coach visited St Arnaud in the afternoon before making his way to Stawell’s Gift Hotel for the evening.
He spent time talking to locals, taking photos and signing autographs.
Gift Hotel owner Peta Duns said Sheedy was the ideal person to have speak on Australia Day.
“He was great. He was very casual and spoke very freely,” she said.
“It was awesome to have a great Australian there on Australia Day.”
70-year-old Sheedy said he “really enjoys” spending time in regional towns speaking to the community.
“It is fantastic being able to come out to the country and speak to really down to earth people,” he said.
“It is a great opportunity to be out in this part of the state.”
