From Monday, Victorians will be able to pay their vehicle registrations in either three, six or 12-month installments.
Short-term registrations were introduced earlier this year, but were not available to motorists with registrations expiring before January 1, 2018.
Now, all motorists will be given the chance to chose from the flexible installments, with an average VicRoads three-month registration costing $200.20, an average six-month registration $400.40, and an average annual fee of $800.80.
So far, more than 28,000 vehicle owners have made the switch to the short-term rego options, with 75 per cent of them selecting three months.
Short-term registration is available for cars, utes, vans, motorbikes and mobile plant vehicles, and options already exist for heavy vehicles and heavy trailers.
It is not available for light trailers, caravans, boats or vessels.
By the end of 2018, VicRoads expects half of all registered vehicle owners will have moved to short-term registration.
