Ripon MP Louise Staley presented an Australian flag to the new St Arnaud police station after it was heartlessly trashed by a town vandal in May.
Ms Staley said she was delighted to present the Australian flag, donated by Senator Jane Hume, to newly recruited St Arnaud First Constable Chris Hill.
Ms Staley then went on a tour of the refurbished police precinct.
Police arrested a 46-year-old man following the break-in at the police station early on Saturday, May 27.
It is alleged the man broke into the non-24 hour police station in Jennings St around 2.50am and caused extensive damage inside.
The St Arnaud man was arrested at the scene.
First Constable Hill said St Arnaud’s new station had been in operation since August and was impressed with the modern facilities.
“It’s very modern and a nice place to work,” he said.
“The stations just lacks a few technological aspects you would see at a Melbourne station, but it definitely suffices and you can do your job well here.”
