Club officials made the decision to abandon to meet on Thursday night due to concerns about the safety of tents pitched at the pool.
Stawell Swimming Club secretary Belinda Dingley said it was better to be “safe than sorry”. “More things could have gone wrong than any positives of holding the meet,” she said.
“The main concern was the weather forecast at that stage which predicted thunderstorms – and we can’t swim in lightning.
“We also have lots of tents and computer equipment at the meets which would have been vulnerable in the forecast conditions.”
With Donald not hosting a meet this season, Stawell will reschedule its cancelled event for February when the Donald event was meant to be held. “We are very lucky we have a chance to host a meet next year. We are looking forward to getting another chance to host.” Dingley said.
