It is a privilege to serve as your mayor for a further 12 months. As a council, we have an enormous responsibility to represent everyone in the municipality.
As individuals, there will always be differences of opinions, however, it is paramount that we work together towards common goals in the best interests of the community.
One of our most important jobs during the coming weeks and months will be to employ a new chief executive following the recent resignation of Peter Brown.
The recruitment process has already started and the position will be advertised this weekend.
Peter has provided excellent leadership over the past seven years and we wish him well in his future endeavours.
Horsham has been buzzing with activity during the past few weeks.
The Nati Frinj Festival was a huge success and I congratulate everyone involved on delivering a fantastic community event.
I was fortunate to attend the Horsham Arts Council’s recent production of Rent in the Horsham Town Hall.
As always, I was amazed by the talent and professionalism of our local performers, right here in Horsham.
The Horsham Cup was well supported, with several people taking advantage of the public holiday to attend the cup.
The Farm to Fork market in Roberts Place on the eve of the cup was a great initiative and a huge success.
While there was some confusion around the cup holiday this year, we will continue to work closely with local businesses and schools during the coming months.
Last Saturday, I attended the Remembrance Day ceremony at Sawyer Park, followed by the opening of the new World War I memorial at the Horsham cemetery later in the day.
If you get a chance, I encourage you to visit the memorial at some stage.
NorthFest was also on last Saturday – another fantastic community event.
This week, we welcome the Tri State Games to Horsham.
This is their third and final year in Horsham.
About 350 participants, along with their carers and families, from across Victoria and interstate will participate in a range of sporting activities throughout the week.
Please give them a warm welcome to Horsham.
