A fallen tree which blocked a whole lane of traffic west bound at the notorious ‘S’ bend section of the Western Highway has been cleared.
Traffic is now moving with ease in both directions.
Earlier
Drivers travelling along the Western Highway between Great Western and Stawell should take care amid reports from the public a fallen tree is blocking a whole lane of traffic west bound.
A motorist who passed the scene reported the incident to police and said it was an accident waiting to happen.
“I came around the bend and all I saw was a big tree across the road blocking a lane of traffic,” the driver said.
“There were two cars and a truck in front of me and I had to swerve or I would have gone straight up the backside of a truck.
“Everyone else was swerving as well, it was pretty bad.”
Stawell SES duty officer Jenny Rooke said their emergency services personnel were responding to the incident.
“We’ve had a lot of people calling in with reports of fallen trees,” she said.
“Our guys are heading off now and we’ll be sure to have the trees cleared as soon as possible.”
