Despite struggling in the Wimmera Netball Association’s top division, Stawell’s junior netballers have flourished in 2017, with all three junior netball sides qualifying for finals.
All three teams will compete this weekend, with different circumstances for each side.
Both the under 17 and under 15 netball teams will play elimination finals at Murtoa on Sunday, September 3 to attempt to keep their seasons alive. The under 17’s will face off in a tough match against Dimboola at 11.20am. The under 17 Warriors won just four games for the season, three less than the Roos.
The under 15 team will also face the Roos but will go into the game confident having defeated Dimboola in their most recent encounter in round 11. The under 15 game will begin at 10.10am.
Stawell’s under 13 netballers will play a home final at Central Park against the Horsham Saints on Saturday after finishing second in the home and away season.
The Warriors’ youngest side is in solid form after handing Ararat its first and only loss of the season last weekend.
Stawell under 13 coach Toni Stewart said despite her side being solid all season she will be wary of the opposition. “We won’t be taking them lightly,” she said.
“It was a fairly one sided competition at the start of the year, with us and Ararat winning comfortably most weeks. A lot of teams have improved – including the Saints – which is great to see.”
The Warriors had a mini-win during the week, with netballers Molly Orr and Madi Taylor sharing the WNA under 13 best and fairest award.
