Show secretary Brendan Lloyd said the event at Horsham Showgrounds attracted people from across Australia.
“We were probably down 100 birds from the previous year’s show, and that came down to people moving, and the feather condition of birds this year because of mice problems,” he said.
Mr Lloyd said a white wyandotte cockerel bantam owned by a South Australian family won the day.
“The reserve champion was an old English game golden duckwing, owned by Ian Tollner from South Australia,” he said.
“We had our former president Ted Brown win the champion light waterfowl with an Indian runner, a young drake.
“He also won champion bantam waterfowl and champion waterfowl with an Australian call duck.”
Mr Lloyd said Alan Lawrence, Keith Kennedy and Anne Beatty judged the hard feather, soft feather and waterfowl categories respectively.
He said the Wimmera’s Dean Wheaton had a standout day.
“He showed rosecombs – our feature breed this year,” he said.
“He won every ribbon in the rosecombs categories.
“Champion junior was Hollianne Hallam, and reserve champion was Harry Hallam.”
Mr Lloyd said the group would turn its attention to its auction in April, also at Horsham Showgrounds.
“We used to have an auction in September also but we haven’t got time to organise it,” he said.
