Semester one of the basketball and indoor soccer seasons have come to a close.
Teams played out grand finals from junior and senior men’s and women’s competitions to finish the first semester of competition.
The first semester began in early February, running through to the end of June.
Northern Grampians Shire Council leisure programs officer Brody Stewart said the season was a success despite fewer competitors than desired.
“We were a bit light on for numbers but everyone adapted well to it,” he said.
“There were some good close games throughout the semester and I would say that the majority of people really enjoyed themselves.”
Stewart said the semester was full of people playing for the first time.
“We had a lot of new people who really enjoyed it,” he said.
“It is a good way to keep fit and get involved in sport.
The second semester of competition will begin Monday, July 24.
Monday will see under 15 and under 18 boys basketball as well as open men’s competition.
Under 12 mixed, under 16 girls and open women’s competitions will run on Tuesday nights.
Indoor soccer from under 9 to open ages will be played on Wednesday nights.
Stewart said they are hopeful of getting an Aussie Hoops program running for children between five and 10 years old in the near future as well.
Stewart said they are always on the lookout for more people to give the sports a go.
“We are definitely after more people to become involved,” he said.
“We are looking for players, coaches, umpires or anyone who just wants to help out. There is training available for those who want to get involved.
“People can call 5358 0550 to find out more.”
