Ararat started its Wimmera Netball Association A Grade season off with a comfortable 21-goal win against Stawell at North Park on Friday.
The Rats got off to a blistering start, jumping out to a 16-5 lead at the first break.
In the second term it was more of the same, with the home team unable to get the match back on its terms.
Ararat continued to pile on goals regularly, while the Rats’ defenders forced the Warriors’ goalies to take longer shots at goal than they would have liked.
At the long break it was Ararat who were looking unstoppable with a 17-goal advantage.
The Warriors started to score more often in the second half, netting 18 goals to the Rats’ 21 but the visitors showed the new recruits could rocket Ararat up the ladder in 2017.
Cecilia Stewart was Ararat’s top goalscorer with 27 while Jemma Clarkson sunk 17 for Stawell in the 28-49 loss.
Both teams will have next weekend off before round two on April 29.
